Savills Guardian provides excellent service to clients every day by delivering professional building and property management. At the 15th Savills Guardian Education Fund Scheme Awards Ceremony, held in the main auditorium at Wah Yan College, Kowloon last month, Savills Guardian yet again proved its commitment to the community.
Savills Guardian Education Fund Scheme is a fund that was established in 2000. It aims to recognise students who concentrate on learning and show outstanding academic performance, by creating a suitable learning atmosphere in the housing estates under the management of Savills Guardian. The scheme also grants scholarships to students in need, encouraging them to concentrate on their studies, when their family finances would have not allowed them to do so, under normal circumstances.
Savills Guardian Education Fund Scheme offers three Scholarship awards (winner, first runner-up and second runner-up), 20 Student Grant awards, and 50 Academic Improvement awards. The scholarships and souvenirs, sponsored by Savills Guardian, are worth more than HK$150,000 in total. All applicants were invited to attend the Awards Ceremony and see the winners receive their prizes.
Enthusiastic response and deserving winners
This year, Savills Guardian received a total of 349 applications for the scheme. The Assessment Committee* noted that the 47 students who had applied for the Scholarship prize had all scored very highly in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination. Since they had all achieved similar marks, it would have been unfair to only compare their academic scores. Therefore, after much discussion, the judges decided not to consider academic achievement as the sole assessment criteria this year, and the scheme was reviewed to focus on students’ intellect and viewpoint on different topics, including criteria such as extracurricular activities, knowledge and experience of current issues, and life goals. In order to select the final four scholarship winners (there were two students in the position of second runner-up), the students were interviewed on these subjects.
Peter Ho, Managing Director of Savills Guardian, stated that, “Since 2000, when the Scheme was established, 1,200 students and families have greatly benefitted. We are delighted to see students showing their learning potential through the Scholarship awards and Student Grant awards. In addition, the awards also hope to relieve the economic pressure that students and their families feel, allowing them to study harder to achieve academic success, and contribute to the community as a whole in the future.”
* The stunning line-up of judges on the Assessment Committee this year included: Mr. Peter Ho – Managing Director of Savills Guardian, Dr. Johnnie Chan, J.P. – Chief Executive Officer of Property Management, Savills, Mr. Ivan Tam – President of The Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies, Mr. Ellis Ip – President of The Hong Kong Institute of Housing, and Mr. K.L. Ho – Chairman of the Owners' Corporation, Parc Versailles Phase I. All applications to the Savills Guardian Education Fund Scheme were selected by a preparatory committee at the first stage, and then sent to the Assessment Committee for a detailed comparison to elect the winning candidates.
