Young and energetic Tsuen Wan West redefines the New Territories with some retailing flair that taps into the district’s natural assets.
With the opening of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link in September, coupled with the formation of a well-developed Western Railway Section and a large number of newly-developed properties around it, Tsuen Wan West will soon be transformed into a retail hotspot with over 800,000 well established - populations.
Tsuen Wan has become something of a standard bearer for all New Towns that have succeeded it. Sitting at the end of the MTR line named for it, what can now be considered traditional Tsuen Wan is a typically bustling Hong Kong neighbourhood? But now, Tsuen Wan West — across the channel from Tsing Yi and spanning the area from Tsuen Wan Road and the new MTR station, towards Castle Peak Road and traditional Tsuen Wan — is developing as its own destination, with its own retail signature.
Less than 20 minutes from East Tsim Sha Tsui station and Hong Kong’s central business district, Tsuen Wan West is poised to benefit from the SAR’s urban sprawl — sprawl that is bringing residents of the New Territories closer to the CBD every day. With the West Rail line’s Tsuen Wan West station at its centre, the emerging district connects to the city effortlessly by transit as well as by major roadways feeding into Kowloon West. Additionally it’s a short hop from the airport as well as the Huanggang and Shenzhen cross-border terminals. Various Convention Centres and hotels nearby beckons with 4,000 upmarket hotel rooms in the area in anticipation of increased visitor arrivals, and a Central-style network of footbridges connects dozens of apartment buildings and office towers, and thousands of residents, professionals and tourists. With its green urban planning, wide-open spaces, and eye to the future, Tsuen Wan West distinguishes itself from Shatin and Tseung Kwan O, even as it demonstrates the New Territories’ shifting personality.
The latest addition to burgeoning Tsuen Wan West is Cheung Kong’s waterfront Shopping Mall - OP Mall. Sitting just a few steps from the traffic-free waterfront promenade, OP Mall will bring a new level of cosmopolitan, lifestyle-forward retailing, contemporary fashion brands, al fresco food and beverage experiences fronting the Rambler Channel, a modern fitness studio, an international kindergarten, and a host of essential services to what will become the new beating heart of the New Territories.
Perched directly atop the West Rail line, OP Mall is part of a larger development that will ultimately comprise nine luxury residential towers and over 2,400 flats with a distinct lifestyle vibe. The emerging neighbourhood will be served by the mall’s 430,000 gross square feet of stylish retailing targeting young families, with chic brands, international dining, entertainment and facilities for children in a sustainable, progressive shopping complex — a reflection of the progress and maturity of the New Territories and its residents. OP Mall’s lifestyle-focused retail mix, family-friendly outdoor space and respite from urban stresses combine to create a premium third space — not the office, not the home — for relaxation and rejuvenation that will further redefine the New Territories. And with two interchange stations on the forthcoming Express Rail Link, the Greater Bay Area’s 50 million-plus residents will be on OP Mall’s doorstep, further reinventing and invigorating Tsuen Wan West’s retail landscape, now and for years to come.
